Garlic-Mashed Turnips and Potatoes

  • 1 lb. turnips, cut into 1/2" pieces
  • 1 lb. potatoes, cut into 1/2" pieces
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 3 T. butter
  • 2 T. sour cream or plain yogurt
  • salt & pepper
  1. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the turnip, potato, and garlic for 10 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  2. Drain and puree the vegetables and garlic through a food mill. (A food processor is not recommended, as it can turn the potatoes very starchy).
  3. Beat in the butter and sour cream and season with salt and pepper.
